Masako’s Leadership and Charisma

Although Hōjō Masako was famous for being an orator, it was rare for a woman to move a samurai retainer at that time, and it was only Hōjō Masako’s oratory and charisma that moved people. Today, female leaders are born in many different worlds, but the fact that Hōjō Masako, a woman even as Yoritomo’s rightful wife, was able to unite and resolve the governesses is very difficult to understand, considering the social position of women at the time. However, with leadership, skillful speaking, and persuasion, people can be moved regardless of their position. Current research has focused on Masako’s role in the process of establishing the samurai government, evaluating her as a key player in promoting the transition from aristocracy to the samurai society.
